It should come as no surprise that Ned Yost removed Eric Gagne from the closers role today. Or should I say he removed himself? He entered yesterday's game in the top of the ninth in a tie game. He promptly served up two singles and eventually let Ryan Ludwick rap in two runs with two outs and the bases loaded. His comments of "I don't deserve the ninth" pretty much made the decision for Yost. It appears the Brewers will go with a closer by committee, which isn't good news, because it's something bad teams do.
But the interesting take on all of this, was Yost's comments of what's wrong with Gagne:
"It's very simple," Yost said. "I'm not going to tell you and I'm not going into it because it's nobody's real business. Plus I don't want to let anybody know in case the opposing team sees it, but it's a simple adjustment that we think can get him back on track."
My fellow Brew Town Beater (that sounds horrible) suggested that Gagne is tipping his pitches first during the blown save against the Reds in Cincinnati when he served up back to back homers, the latter coming off the feeble bat of Paul Bako. He suggested it again during his debacle in Houston in which the usual free-swinging Astros were laying off pretty well placed change ups and drawing walks or poking singles through the infield.
It very well might be the case. Yost's comment about it is weird, even for him. Suggesting he's not going to tell people what the problem is, but they have it identified and he can be corrected. It certainly would explain a lot of his troubles, if the batters knew what pitch was on the way. I certainly hope if he is tipping his pitches, he figures out how to mask them once again otherwise that's one expensive turd rotting on the bench.

In my humble opinion, the only thing Gagne is tipping is a glass of Canadian Whiskey down his throat in nostalgia.
It comes as no surprise....to me anyways.....what Yost said about correcting the problem...I have the impression that Yost tries to treat the media like his bitch and he plays this wierd self fullfilling prophecy game that no one really cares about..
Like today, he announces that the Brewers are ready to get in a groove or winning streak or whatever and right before that he says, it's impossible to tell when a streak will start. Yost to me is a mean spirited Stengal who has no clue how much little sense he makes.
He's simply a guy struggling to save his ass and that's why he pretends to be a car mechanic with secret understanding of the cars brake pads....a secret that only he knows about...Yeh right...I'm sorry, but Yost is totally dishonest...he should be in Hollywood..
