I'm not going to claim to know Javon Walker, I had the chance to meet him and interview him on a couple ocassions, but thats it. He always seemed like a very gregarious, outgoing and innocent young man. From what I'm told and what I've read though, he's also quite dumb. Proof of that is this latest instance.
The Javon Walker story is really a strange one. His career and life haven't been the same since he begged out of Green Bay. He signed with Drew Rosenhaus, and allowed him to influence his decision making. He got in the verbal spat with Brett Favre, and even tried to show up Favre by hosting his own celebrity softball game at Miller Park.
Eventually, he got his way and he was shipped out of town. Denver was supposed to be a new start for him, but it never turned out to be as he planned. He started tossing dagers at Green Bay as soon as he got to Denver. Why? Who knows. Injuries then came in Denver too, cutting most of his playing time short. Before Brandon Marshall emerged as a rising star and replaced Javon as the go-to-guy, and before he again whined and got himself out of another city, Javon had a life changing experience.
On New Years Eve, 2006, Walker was present when Darrent Williams was shot and killed in his limo. Williams died in Walker's arms. I'm sure we've all seen the shocking pictures of Walker wearing blood-soaked clothing. It really was a tragic story.
He has clearly learned nothing. I'm not going to say Javon deserved what he got. No one deserves to get robbed and have their face caved in. But seriously, what do you expect. You've heard it said millions of times, but nothing good happens that late in that type of environment.
There's no telling how Walker will bounce back from this incident. His career was on life support as it was, now he must recover from a broken orbital socket. Doesn't sound good. I hope he can fully recover, and even more than that I hope he's finally learned something. Time to grow up Javon, you've burned numerous bridges and are inches away from tossing your career down the drain.
