C.C. Senor

I can hear all the rumblings from all the way out here in Asheville, NC. As they say, where there's smoke, there's fire. I strongly believe C.C. Sabathia will be a Milwaukee Brewer by Tuesday.

If you're willing to believe what you hear, Doug Melvin is willing to part with Matt LaPorta and third baseman Taylor Green to make it happen. This should come as no shock, you knew they'd have to give up either LaPorta or Gamel. This is what I'd prefer they do as well.

Look, LaPorta has just been mashing the ball in AA, some scouts have even raved he's more polished at this point than Braun. He's drawn comparisons to Braun and Manny Ramirez. But to get something, you've got to give something up. I'd rather hold onto Gamel than LaPorta for a few reasons.

Gamel is a left handed bat, and power bat at that. He doesn't quite have as much power as LaPorta, but he hits more doubles and for a higher average.

Gamel will probably end up playing first or OF anyway, which would lead to a log jam if LaPorta was on this team. Who knows though, maybe he can turn his fielding woes around and then we'd have a legit third baseman of the future.

Lastly, Gamel isn't represented by Scott Boras. If you don't think for one minute that we wouldn't have to deal with the same headache we have with Prince right now if three years from now LaPorta has been raking up here, you're an idiot.

The rumored proposed deal we have on the table to Cleveland is LaPorta, Green and OF prospect Lorenzo Cain. If Cleveland thinks they can find a better offer than this, they're fooling themselves.

If I were Doug, I'd be willing to toss in a bit more if Cleveland gave us a prospect back in return. Actually, I'd prefer he do that. You really don't want to have nothing to show for this trade other than two sandwich picks when the season is over, so I'd try and get something else in return from Cleveland that we own for more than three months.

If this deal does go down, I'll be ecstatic. Losing LaPorta would hurt, but your true OF of the future is going to be Braun, Brantley and Hart anyway. Plus, as Tom Haudricourt put it, how many times does the reigning Cy Young winner get dealt in mid-season? Think about a best of 5 playoff set, and you throw Sheets, Sabathia and Parra at a team...oh and by the way you have a playoff vet Jeff Suppan waiting in the wings as well.

I just hope they're not done. They need to address pitching. If you're truly going for it this year, go after Brian Fuentes as well. We've seen Mota struggle immensely. Imagine a bullpen that throws Gagne, Fuentes and Torres at you...on top of the starters I just rattled off. It's going to take prospects to get Fuentes, but nowhere near as much as it would take to land Sabathia.

If the Brewers could add Sabathia and Fuentes, they would have just landed arguably the two best available players on the market and all but locked up at least the wild card.

If we could get Fuentes for Angel Salome and a guy like Sam Narron, I'd be all for it.
