Richie Sexson was released by the Mariners today. He's never enjoyed more success than he did in a Brewers' uniform. Sexson inked a $50 million, four year contract with Seattle before the 2004 season. The Brewers could use another right handed pinch hitter and a late-inning defensive replacement for Prince Fielder at first base. Richie was batting .218 with 11 home runs in 74 games with Seattle. He's struck out 76 times in 252 at-bats. According to Ned Yost, those numbers would make Richie Sexson an excellent leadoff man. The troubled Sexson cited stress in his personal life as the cause of his helmet-throwing attack on Rangers' pitcher Kason Gabbard for what Sexson perceived to be a pitch being thrown at him back in early May. That incident combined with his lack of production at the plate led to the decision to release him. Thursday, July 10, 2008
