In an interesting turn of events, on WSSP's Doug Russell show this morning Adam McCalvy indicated that when Jeff Suppan returns the Brewers are leaning towards a six man rotation. To pull this off, Seth McClung and Dave Bush would share the 5th starter role with McNasty pitching on the road and Bush at home.
It' something that I jokingly mentioned they should do weeks ago, but never in my wildest dreams thought they'd seriously consider.
McNasty's splits aren't quite as wicked as Bush's, but it is an interesting concept to consider. If it's worked this beautifully with Hall and Branyan, why not with these two?
If it works, great. Personally though, I'd rather see Bush stay in the rotation and see what McNasty can do as a setup man. Guillermo Mota has been way too inconsistent this year - especially as of late, and David Riske has been hit or miss as well. Surprisingly, Gagne has looked terrific since returning from the DL and assuming the role of setup man. But still, McNasty definitely has the stuff to be a late inning guy and is a nice insurance policy to have on the roster.
