Badgers?!?

I have several Brewer related topics to cover in the coming days, as I have now fully recovered from the playoffs....but I need to weigh in on the Badger comments from Justin last week.
Referring to @ Fresno State, @ Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State at home followed by @ Iowa, Illinois and MSU at home as the toughest stretch of scheduling in recent memory is laughable or maybe it just emphasizes the "I just need to get to a Bowl game" philosophy of UW.

Look... Fresno State is a very good mid Major program, but they are also, a 5th place WAC team that isn't ranked in the top 25. Michigan is just plain awful this year, Ohio State is down from the last couple years, and is working in a true-Freshman QB, but is certainly a formidable opponent who will improve in time with Pryor. The showing against USC is not something to completely write off, however. Penn State is elite, and will play for the National Championship this year, partly because the rest of the Big-Ten is awful right now. This Iowa team is the worst I have seen in 10 years, despite crushing Indiana, and Illinois and Michigan State are mid-level teams that would finish 8th in the Big 12 or SEC. Four of these games were at home, and both the Penn State and OSU games were at night, which amplifies the home field advantage.

Why do I bring this up? It is mainly because I take exception to any comment that praises UW’s schedule as being tough. Fact is UW canceled a home game against a rebuilding Virginia Tech team this year and replaced it with Cal Poly. The reason this happened was Bielema believed his schedule was too tough. The only reason to duck a home game against a BCS foe, is if you are worried about winning the required 6 games to become bowl eligible. Elite schools who seek National Championships don’t do that.
