I'm beyond sick and tired of having to rehash the Favre vs Rodgers debate every single week. Enough already. Brett Favre is gone, move on.
Rodgers is not the problem with this team. For god's sake, the man played hurt today (and gave a very telling interview after the game revealing just how hurt he still was) and played extremely well...except for one play. Get over yourselves, how many times have we seen the great Brett Favre toss that interception in the fourth quarter?
Stop calling into a certain post game show on a very large station in Milwaukee, and telling me "We would have won that game with Favre" or "Rodgers hasn't shown enough progression" or "Rodgers isn't a leader, Favre was the heart and soul of our team" or my personal favorite, "The Jets are now a Super Bowl team, we're a 3-13 team and Favre is the MVP...hands down." Idiots.
Rodgers is not the problem with this team. He's played far above any realistic expectations. The Packers are losing right now because they're committing too many penalties, they've been dealt some big injuries early, they don't have enough quality depth on the defensive line or in the defensive backfield, and the offensive line isn't creating holes for the running game - and when they do the backs aren't hitting them.
Thompson bashers are out in full force. Surprise, surprise. I personally enjoy how they're still playing the "why didn't he sign anybody" card. Are you shocked? It's not the man's MO to sign free agents. We've seen this for three years now. And the next time I hear, "he's never signed anyone" I'm going to toss Chuck Woodson and Ryan Pickett in your face.
The team is losing right now because of mental mistakes. Injuries and lack of quality depth have also hurt them, but the biggest factor is luck. The Packers won a ton of close games last year. The Packers played in six games last year that were decided by seven points or less. They won five of those six. Part of that is skill, part of that is a veteran quarterback leading your team, but a large portion of that is luck. If those games swing the other way they're suddenly an 8-8 team. Simply put, they're not winning the close games this year that they did a year ago.
This team is not a 4-12 team, but they're also not a 12-4 team. They're closer to an 8-8 or 9-7 team, but in the NFC North, thats good enough to make the playoffs. Losing Harris and Jenkins definitely hurt, but this team will get better. Rodgers will continue to progress, Ryan Grant will get things going once he's at 100% health (he started to get there on Sunday) and the defense will come together.
The division is there for the taking, they still have the best QB in their division, and because of injuries they're getting young guys like Pat Lee and Tramon Williams reps that will benefit them next year.
Last seasons success was aided a lot by a manageable schedule, winning close games and relatively perfect health. They haven't been afforded those same luxuries this season. Even if the great Brett Favre was at the helm of this squad, they're still probably 3-2. This team is still the youngest team in the league and will continue to get better. Relax, calm down, step away from the ledge, and for god's sake move on from Brett Favre. If not, root for the Jets, but then don't call into Milwaukee media outlets to voice your displeasure.
