Replacing Jack Z.

In a move that should surprise nobody, Jack Zduriencik has finally been given the keys to an organization as a GM. The Seattle Mariners pulled the trigger after the Pirates didn't do so last offseason. We don't need to go on and on about how much he meant to the organization, his draft record speaks for itself.

I'll be very surprised if the Brewers replace him from outside of the organization. Two of Jack Z's top assistants while he was with the Crew already moved up the food chain to become scouting directors with other teams, a telltale sign that his replacement is already on the company payroll.

Dick Groch, current special assistant to the GM/director of pro scouting will make the best fit for the Brewers newest vacant position. Groch has an impressive writer himself: Derek Jeter, Tim Belcher, Hal Morris, Scott Kamienicki, Mart Hutton. With Groch on staff there is zero necessity to search outside the organization to replace Jack Z. But here's the most important part, it should be done quickly. Extremely quickly. When top aides suck as Jack Z. leave one team to take a step up with another, it is commonplace to take some of his top scouts and assistants along for the ride. But if Groch is offered an immediate promotion, you stop that process.
