I almost feel compelled to cover the Jets now since the Packers are only playing for pride. Since the calendar turned to November (especially in the month of December) everyone's favorite undeserving Pro-Bowler has looked awful.
Yesterdays performance was just a continuation of his recent string of bad play, as Favre went 18-31 for 187 yards, 0 TDs and 2 INTs. That brings his league leading total to 19 INT's on the year. Yeah, Favre is going to the Pro Bowl and he's bringing his 19 picks - who are we kidding, 21 after this weekends season finale - with him.
The last four games especially, Favre has looked more like an over-the-hill QB who just doesn't know how to let go, than he has a "gunslinger".
In those four games, the Jets have gone 1-4, it should be noted they only beat Buffalo because of Dick Jauron's idiotic coaching performance and deciding to throw and put the ball in JP Losman's hands late in the fourth rather than run the ball.
Favre has turned in his four worst performances of the season in those games, throwing 6 INT's opposed to just 1 TD. He hasn't had a QB rating higher than 61.4 in those games.
Whats the point to all of this you ask? The point is, the Packers made the right decision. They looked at the game against Chicago and the NFC Championship game last year, and his playoff performances since 1998 and came to the conclusion you can't rely on the guy in December and January anymore.
I'd really love to see all of the Favre zealots try and spin this one, or hear Scott Favre call WFAN and say it's Eric Mangini's fault for bad play calls, or Coles fault for dropping that ball. Speaking of which though, how dumb is Eric Mangini? First of all, why didn't you kick the field goal after the penalty? Think those three points would have come in handy? Secondly, why in the blue hell are you going for it ON YOUR OWN TWENTY YARD LINE!?!? Pop Warner coaches aren't that dumb. Way to send the final nail into the coffin of your playoff chances Mangenius.
The fact of the matter is Favre can't play in cold weather anymore. Despite the fact that the Packers are staring 6-10 right in the eyes, the Packers are the clear winners in this trade - actually, you could argue the Dolphins are the winners.
Consider the following: Aaron Rodgers gets a year under his belt and shows he can play in this league, the Packers get a draft pick from the Jets in a year where they need to add a lot of depth, Favre once again faltered down the stretch, and lastly it looks like the Jets won't make the playoffs.
I'm sorry, but the Packers come out on top in this deal, no way around it.
One last thing, if you would have told me ten years ago that this would be the site when the Jets played the Seahawks in Seattle on December 21, 2008 I would have laughed in your face.

Bizarre.

Couldn't agree with you more about the Favre thing. When people were asking me what I thought of the NFC Championship game last season, the only thing I could come up with was simply, "Favre looked old and cold and uninterested".
That was pretty much the consensus. He looked exactly like he did in that game against Chicago about 4 weeks before, uncomfortable. The guy just can't take the cold anymore.
Simmons had a great comment about it after the fact, kicking himself for (like the rest of us) not realizing that the 20 something year old quarterback would be able to handle cold weather a little bit more than the 37 year old quarterback with a lot of miles on his body.
He can't handle the cold anymore and really has no interest in playing in it. Todd, would you be able to look up his stats the past 3 years or so in cold-weather games and see how his numbers are?
Favre looks washed up to be sure. Hard to argue that. But before we get too excited about this trade, let's see what Thompson does with the pick, whether or not Rodgers does indeed to be an above average QB, and whether or not TT overpaid him. Too many things are up in the air. But if your premise is built on that Favre is done, than sure, it's a good trade for the Packers. But, as I said, there is going to be more to this trade than that.
Does it really matter what happens with the pick? You don't want it to be a bust, but even then, it's a wash. WFAN thinks Favre is completely finished. You have a pick for essentially nothing. Hard to say/come to grips with but it's true.
So, you know how the NFL has had the "C" placed on the jerseys of the Captain of the teams the past few years. Is there an offensive captain of any team that isn't the quarterback?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure there is a lineman that had the "C" on some team. I can't recall if it was Faneca when he was in Pittsburgh or maybe it's Hutchinson in Minnesota, but those are the only non-QB ones I can think of
I think Terrell Owens has a C on his jersey.
tony gonzo in KC wears the "C" he is a TE....
