How can we get Corey Hart back?

Watching the Brewers offense this weekend against the Atlanta Braves was pretty exciting. It seems as though the offense is getting hot again and the homeruns just keep coming. Both Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder hit two home runs a piece. Cameron, Counsell, and Gamel came up with some key hits throughout the series. Still one man, fails to perform night after night, and it is making me look like a fool.

Corey Hart has the look of someone who is completely lost at the plate. Hart was able to strike out 7 times since the month of June started (that’s all of seven days folks). He was able to collect only 4 hits and 3 RBI’s in 26 at bats. That’s a hefty .154 batting average my friends.

My question is, “where is the Corey Hart from the first month of the season?”

In the month of April, Jon Corey was hitting a blistering .284 (that is blistering for Hart right now) with 3 home runs and 3 stolen bases. Not only did he seem more patient at the plate, but he was clutch with runners in scoring position. I was so confident that we had our pre-All Star Corey Hart back that I went out on a limb and proclaimed him my pre-season Brewer MVP favorite. (I said this knowing that Prince and Braun would have their usual stellar seasons of course. So by MVP, he was going to be the third guy to step up for the offense)

After the 2007 season, Corey Hart was my guy to step up and take the honorary title of “My Favorite Brewer”. (Only 3 Brewers have ever held that title since 1987 – some trivia for you) I know that he is a fan favorite here, and it hurts me to see him struggle so much. So, what can he do to get back to the Corey Hart that makes everyone happy? I have some ideas that may help Corey regain the glory of his past two seasons.

1. Obvious marketing ploy… wear those flip sunglasses from the 80’s for night games. Maybe it will even help him spot some of those horrible outside curveballs a little better.

2. Provide cue cards for any and all FSN interviews. Being able to say more than three words without pausing will do wonders for his confidence resulting in a thirty point increase in his batting average.

3. Let’s do one better than Todd Coffee. Change Hart’s at bat song to “Sexy Boy” (The Heart Break Kid, Shawn Michael’s WWE entrance song). There is also nothing wrong with wearing a flashy robe to the plate and tearing it off just before you hand it to the bat boy. Don’t be afraid to strut a little as well.

Hopefully, whether we see some of these changes or not, we’ll see Corey Hart start swinging the bat well. I kid because I love, and I would love nothing more than for Corey Hart to be a dependable bat in the front (well, anywhere really) of the Brewer’s line up.
